Pulse Tasting Friday, 5-7pm

It's now hip to ask, "What's your birth year?" not "What's your sign?"

We keep a list of contacts who want us to let them know when the great wines of particular vintages come out. May sound normal to you, but the sole reason this list exists is for the purpose of parents or grandparents wanting to collect birth year vintages of all the best, cellar-worthy wines to share with the young, budding aficionados.  We practically ran out of 2005’s because my daughter was born that year! Then, other client’s babies came into the world that year and we were scrambling like their older siblings at an Easter egg hunt. The tricky part is going to be finding enough monumental, age-worthy, small production 2007 whoppers for eager parents. The vintage was a little short, we’re hearing, from most producers AND it is one of the most talked about vintages since 1997. So, we recommend either grabbing wines that are meant to be drunk within 5-10 years and toasting your children as they enter their teenage years or really paying attention to the offerings that come your way for the 10-20 year agers and let us know what you need as soon as possible. If your child, grandchild or relative/friend’s child was born in 2006, you’ll have an easier time finding exactly what you need and the wine will probably age as well if not better than 2007---truly. This is all leading up to some of what we feel are ‘the greats’ that are about to be released: Ghost Block, Drinkward Peschon, Hourglass, Fairchild, Oakville East Exposure, Scarecrow, Bond and more!!! If you need help finding the best wines for your child’s birth year, please give us a shout!

And now for some of our favorite everyday drinking wines…………

LA SIRENA, MOSCATO D’AZUL, NAPA VALLEY 2008 $30
($342/12 bottle case)
Heidi Barrett’s label: this is a great and different dry white wine (not sweet in other words) that is refreshingly unique in its blue bottle. The wine is wonderfully crafted with quality assurance. The production is pretty small and it generally sells out long before the next vintage. We always notice how excited our clients who know this wine get when the next release is out. They return email offerings pretty quickly---that tells us something.

JELLY JAR, ZINFANDEL, NOVA VINEYARD, LAKE COUNTY 2008 $24
($273.60/12 bottle case)
Awesome Zinfandel that isn’t trying to be Petite Sirah or Port. We love all the different styles, but if you are looking for a description, it would be old-style Napa Valley Zinfandel with lots of pepper and spice and enough fruit to remind you that you are drinking a wine from a sunshine-y area. This is down-right a great Zinfandel.

COPAIN, PINOT, “TOUS ENSEMBLE”, ANDERSON VALLEY 2007 $25
($285/12 bottle case)
Now THIS is a quality Pinot Noir---Wells Guthrie of Copain worked at Turley, M. Chapoutier, Marcassin and Martinelli before starting his own brand in 1999. We’re going to leave the rest of the ‘splainin’ to the bottle.

CRU, CABERNET SAUVIGNON NAPA VALLEY 2007 $55
($627/12 bottle case)
Keith Emerson (Emerson Brown) is making the fabulous Cru from Vineyard 29 that comes from 10 incredible vineyards within the Napa Valley. Philippe Melka is making the estate wines and the reins have been passed on to Keith for this crowd-pleasing, beautifully appealing liquid Smore---or better referred to as a SCORE because it is so darn delicious.
