Domaine Lamy-Pillot 1er Cru Boudriotte Rouge Chassagne Montrachet 2020

Rene Lamy’s winery is located in the heart of the village of Chasagne-Montrachet, and his family has been winegrowers here since the middle of the 17th Century. They own 15 hectares of vineyards, mostly in the appellations of Saint Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet. They are also among the only 15 privileged proprietors of the most prestigious Grand Cre: Le Montrachet, with 0.0542 hectares making around 300 bottles each year. 

When it comes to winemaking, the Domaine follows traditional practices, focusing on minimal intervention to allow the terroir and grape quality to shine through in the final wines. Using oak barrels for fermentation and aging adds further complexity and structure to the wines. La Boudriotte 1er Cru is located on the grounds of the Morgeot Abbery and is technically a subsection of Morgeot. The vineyard lies on a gentle slope of gravel, clay, and limestone and the vines here were planted between 1973 and 1984. 

Always a darker, richer Pinot than you'd expect from Chassagne, the touch of extra freshness from 2021's cooler growing season makes this even more exceptionally hard to resist. Black and red cherry fruit serve as the wine's core, with an attractive top note of sweet spice and a base note of crushed limestone and gravel, adding complexity and depth. The tannins are ripe and nicely grippy, propelling a long, black cherry and earth finish. A stunning red Burgundy from a storied and classic producer!
