Dominus Proprietary Red Napa Valley 2012

Dominus, or “Lord of the Estate”, is Christian Moueix’s way of expressing his commitment to stewardship of the Napanook vineyard, a 124-acre site west of Yountville. A Napa Valley classic, Tod Mostero (Opus One, Haut-Brion, Pétrus and Romanée-Conti) crafted the 2012 vintage. Dominus is the perfect example of how “classic” does not necessarily mean “clicked-back”; with more earth, lower alcohol, and higher acidity. This 100 point vintage is succulent with lovely balance and poise. With time in the glass, it fleshes out nicely with hints of rose petal, savory herbs, licorice, smoke and menthol. We cannot even begin to imagine the elegance this wine will have ten years from now. If you like to cellar your wines, our advice would be to open this bottle, and after some serious decanting you can assess if this would be a fabulous trophy wine for the cellar (it would be in ours!). If you enjoy wine bottle to bottle, you’ll be richly rewarded if you open it at breakfast, and serve it with a very special dinner. We mean it guys, decant this gorgeous Napa Cabernet.
