Driving up and down Highway 29 in the Napa Valley, there's a lot of flashy, fancy wine estates peppered around the valley floor and up into the hills. With filigreed gates, mammoth fountains, and antique car collections, these estates are the crown jewels of the valley attracting visitors from all around the world. While getting to visit these wineries is a treasured affair and the wines are amazing, a little exploration into the nooks and crannies of the Napa Valley you will find a much different adaptation; with weathered hands and sun-kissed smiles, the heart-warming people behind the wines, and insanely delicious juice. Places with no pretense, no smoke and mirrors, and no glittering chandeliers. Places where work boots are sitting outside the front door, dogs are running amok in the vineyard, and every family member is hard at work. Broman Cellars is just one of those places, and Bob Broman is the man behind it. Tucked into the hills below the crest of Howell Mountain lies the tiny two-acre vineyard and home to Bob Broman and family. Bob Broman has over 35 years of winemaking experience in the Napa Valley working for esteemed wineries such as Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and St. Supery. When you ask Bob, "When did you start being a winemaker?" he responds with, "In the dark ages." Over half of Bob's life has been spent as a winemaker. In 1996, Bob started his own consulting business called Wine Production Specialists. As a consultant, he managed production, blending and bottling of more than 450,000 cases of premium wine for six clients annually. Bob's experience and reputation as a world-class winemaker has made him a sought-after consultant internationally working on projects in France, Italy, Chile, and the Republic of Georgia. 1994 marked the first vintage however that he decided to make wine on a much smaller scale and in the style he wanted. With his wife, Deborah, and daughter, Lisa, this new release of Broman's 2015 red wines marks the 21st vintage of his very own, family operated winery, while still being a treasured insider's secret. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Broman's vineyard on Deer Park Road in Saint Helena and aged in French oak for 34 months, 20% of which was new, the remainder being 2-5 year-old barrels, maintaining purity of fruit. Aromas of fresh, bright crushed red berry, cherry, pomegranate, and red plum literally jump out of the glass resulting in your mouth to water before the glass even touches your lips. Fragrant notes of fresh herbs, cedar, and a tiny hint of toasted vanilla are followed by a full, round palate with beautifully balanced acidity and sturdy yet smooth, fine-grained tannins. Underneath that richness though, you will feel a lifted brightness, keeping this wine deft and lively followed by a long, smooth finish that is perennially present in Broman Cabernet. While this wine is SO delicious now, it will also cellar beautifully for another 10+ years. Also, it is today and will continue to be in your cellar one of the very best Napa values produced. Only 190 cases made.
