Domaine Gérard Villet Rosé Crémant du Jura Rosé NV

The Jura is a lovely wine region located just east of the Côte d'Or in Burgundy. This lush region is nestled along the hillsides of the heavily forested Jura Mountains neighboring the marshy plain lands of Bresse. The climate here is comparable to Burgundy and Alsace. However, the region experiences considerably more rain and benefits from the protective nature of the dense woods that define the perimeter of many vineyards. The estate of Domaine Gerard Villet is in Arbois, which is the region’s first AOC, declared back in 1936. The estate is run by Gerard and his wife Christine, who started their brand in 1988 when they inherited three hectares of vines from Christine’s father. The couple immediately got to work converting their holdings to organic viticulture, which today hardly seems like a novel idea, but at the time they were among the first estates to make this commitment.

The grapes for this are grown biodynamically and they are 100% Trousseau. Sparkling Trousseau from Jura you say? Aged 30 months on the lees gives this a medium bubble intensity and a true methode traditionnelle quality. As is common from the region, this is just slightly oxidized with raspberry, cranberry and spicy earth notes. The deep rich color gives hints of the fruits in the glass.
