Fortunate Son The Warrior Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2018

Since his debut vintage in 2000, Jayson Woodbridge and his Hundred Acre wines have been over-delivering and practically one-upping with each passing year. Every bottle produced is without disappointment - outstanding, plush, and genuinely satisfying, for the lover of rich, powerful wines. If opened young, they are approachable and decadent, and if chosen for cellaring, they create an exotic experience rivaled by few. Sounds ideal! How does Jayson accomplish this? He is resolutely devoted to quality at the highest level and won’t settle for anything less than perfection. It is these standards that confidently let us know we are always getting the very best in every single bottle and down to the very last drops.

Today is the day we have been anxiously awaiting for six long years. It is finally here - a wine brand to add to your highly desirable list: Fortunate Son. For Cab-lovers, this brand is a fantasy come true, and if you were an ACME Kahuna Member in 2012, you were first to taste the inaugural vintage that became an all-out obsession. Only made under ideal conditions, there was a long period when Fortunate Son disappeared without even a warning. It was a feeling of desperation for those of us who were hooked, followed by frequent requests to know when it might again be available. Finally, after years of fearing it would never return, we had a glimmer of hope. We learned that a historic, jewel-box winery down the same country lane as ACME had established new stewardship, and Jayson Woodbridge was the man behind it. He realized he had the chance to thoughtfully pay tribute to one of Napa’s earliest grape farmers: Mr. David Fulton, while making the minute property the ideal home of Fortunate Son. It was his fascination with the early farming families dating back to the 1860s that led the charge. As pioneers pushed west to explore new lands – prospectors headed to the mountains to find gold, merchants built the Port of San Francisco to open trade with the Far East, and there was a group wanting to dedicate their lives to ranching and farming the fertile lands of Napa Valley. They became some of the first grape growers to whom we owe our thanks, and David Fulton was one of these people. Local stories say his vine clippings were used to plant the original George Belden Crane vineyards (a large swath of western St. Helena) back in 1865.

With a master plan in place, Jayson has gone beyond the historic David Fulton Winery for inspiration. The overall focus of Fortunate Son will be a collection of historic, family-owned vineyards for which Jayson will be involved in the meticulous farming techniques for which he is renowned, utilizing the locally famous winery just a stone’s throw away. The Fortunate Sons vineyards and wines are treated with the same standards as Jayson’s legacy brand Hundred Acre, and they will be a growing collection of crème de la crème wines from these heritage vineyards scattered throughout Napa.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon – this is pure excellence and brooding power and one more treasure to behold from Jayson Woodbridge’s school of divine wine.  Vineyard Notes by Woodbridge — Sourced from a single, small, family vineyard and farmed with great care and attention. Made by sorting the fruit berry-by-berry, fermenting in small, French oak fermenters, and long aging in the finest barriques. The secret is no compromise and no detail overlooked, ever.
