Unique in focus by Napa standards, Dan only makes white wines under this label and a few from rare varietals not widely grown here in the Napa Valley (his day job is making exceptional Cabernet for Larkmead). Since his first vintage of Massican in 2009, he has garnered a loyal following for these stimulating and vibrant wines, and a large share of that following are his friends and colleagues here in the valley. In a land known for big, powerful Cabernets, Dan's approach to his style of white winemaking is both refreshing and adored.

The Annia blend was the first and only white wine Dan made in 2009 under the Massican label, and it is still the benchmark for his focused style. The flagship white wine blend is sourced from small vineyards around the Napa Valley. The three grape varietals, Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and Chardonnay, are harvested separately and fermented independently in French oak and stainless-steel barrels until blending six weeks before bottling. The Tocai and Ribolla build the aroma and flavor profile of the wine, while the Chardonnay adds to the wine’s structure. The resulting wine is fresh and fruitful, with lifted acidity and a welcome core of citrus, flinty minerality, and tropical fruits. This fresh and subtle wine fulfills the promise set forth years ago to bottle unique and memorable California white wines.
