Rookie of the Year status right here! We are elated to introduce you to Boar’s View BDR, a brand-spanking-new Pinot Noir from none other than the winemaker with the Midas touch, Thomas Rivers Brown. Thomas is like the Tom Brady of winemakers, no matter what side of the football you’re on; you must respect him for his string of accomplishments. He is a GOAT contender for sure. And for both Toms, their fan base supersedes whichever team, or winery, they happen to be guiding to the next championship ring or 100-point accolade. Thomas Brown is probably best known for crafting blockbuster Cabernet Sauvignon (Schrader Cellars, Caterwaul, Riverain). But he’s also incredibly adept when it comes to cult Pinot Noir (Rivers-Marie, Shibumi Knoll). This gem from the Sonoma Coast is no shrinking violet, so if you’re looking for a big, brawny, Cab-drinker’s Pinot Noir, this wine is your jam. Boar’s View Pinot Noir would probably draw a sell-out crowd based on its cult of personality alone, but its eye-popping, full-bodied, dark fruit flavors once again prove Thomas Brown is an MVP!
For the very first vintage of this decadent 100% Pinot Noir, Thomas selected specific barrels to create a dark, complex Pinot Noir full of fruit, spice, and structure. Waves of aromas suggest red licorice, pomegranate reduction, pennyroyal mint, and lavender oil. In contrast to many Sonoma Coast Pinot Noirs, this wine exhibits a nearly opaque purple-red hue, reminiscent of Cabernet. The bold, dynamic palate unfurls with notes of macerated boysenberry, cedar shavings, black cherry, oolong tea, and crushed river rock. This Pinot Noir kicks off with a fruit-forward expression and develops more weight mid-palate, finishing with a pretty, floral quality. This wine is best enjoyed NOW with its abundance of fruit and outstanding natural balance and acidity. In other words, don’t retire this Pinot Noir to your cellar. This hedonistic wine is in its prime and ready to score a touchdown for your taste buds!
