Collectors of Spottswoode wines are truly some of the most loyal, and most brilliant aficionados we have the privilege of knowing. They understand what it means to invest in and stand behind history, luxury, and a product that consistently exceeds expectations. The entire Spottswoode portfolio always over-delivers with each new wine the dedicated and tenured team handcrafts at their gorgeous Estate Winery in St. Helena. Spottswoode’s honest commitment to making superbly structured wines has earned accolades that prove they are worthy of the praise they receive each year, a notion they continue to uphold vintage after vintage. We are honored to share their latest release, the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc! It’s hard to believe, but this is the 37th vintage of this wine, and not surprising. It’s perfection!
Forever an ACME favorite, this wine is beautifully aromatic, energetic, and sublime, with effortless poise and remarkable complexity, making it both eminently drinkable and worthy of cellar-aging. Crafted using grapes from the Spottswoode Estate on the western edge of St. Helena and those from other iconic family-owned vineyards in both Napa and Sonoma. The 2021 expression is predominantly Sauvignon Blanc blended with 3% Semillon, and fermented in a combination of French oak barrels, small stainless-steel tanks, one clay amphora, and one concrete egg. A magnificent Sauvignon Blanc, marked aromatically by layers of citrus ~ lime, lemon, grapefruit, and a hint of mandarin. Full of white peach and cassis, framed with vanilla, ripe pear, green apple, and hints of dried herbs and toasted wheat berry. Rich and textural, with a wonderful minerality and energy that carries into a long, mouthwatering finish. Led by Winemaker, Aron Weinkauf, these wines showcase extraordinary aromas, effortless poise, and remarkable complexity. For all of these reasons, it is why notable wine writers have hailed this wine as one of America’s, if not the world’s “best Sauvignon Blancs."
