Somnium Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019

Vroom vroom! Five years ago, we had the sincere honor of debuting Somnium, one of Howell Mountain's treasures. Since then, we have relished watching people fall in love with this wine repeatedly. The team at ACME has also had the honor of getting to know the woman behind the project, Danica Patrick, former IndyCar and NASCAR racing driver. She is dynamic, energetic, passionate, aspiring, and joyful.

Danica has pushed boundaries in male-dominated professions and continues to do so with zeal, enthusiasm, and grace. During a 2006 visit, Danica dreamed of owning a vineyard in Napa Valley one day. In 2009, she miraculously found a small parcel up the switchbacks of Howell Mountain with one of the most breathtaking views of the valley. Somnium, which means dream in Latin, is crafted by none other than Julien Fayard (Château Lafite Rothschild, Atelier Melka, Covert), a growing legend in the Napa Valley. The high-elevation Somnium Vineyard sits just below Howell Mountain, a 22-acre property of which only six acres are planted to vine. The volcanic hillside consists of extremely rocky, iron-rich soils and complex micro-climates, allowing for velvety soft wines yet intensely complex and robust. 

The Estate 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 20 months in a combination of new and once-used French oak barrels. Beautifully balanced and elegant with aromas of black licorice and dark cocoa with hints of mint and pomegranate. Dark, dense flavors of black cherry, blackberry, and English toffee complement one another so perfectly. Structured tannins leave you with a lasting impression of German chocolate cake on the finish. Just 198 cases produced.
