Chateau Boswell Absolutely Eloise Sun Chase Vineyard Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2017

A few weeks ago, ACME received an unlikely knock on the door. Our neighbors from just a few miles north, Château Boswell, had arrived with a surprising little stash of wine for us to try. As you likely know, Château Boswell suffered a devastating loss in the 2020 Glass Fire. Images of their winery aglow with flames made headlines, and almost everything was lost. But not all…

Luckily, the team had moved their library vintages offsite just before the Glass Fire erupted. And these bottles have been quietly aging gracefully while the dust quite literally settled. That unexpected knock on our door unearthed some of the most beautiful domestic Pinot Noirs I have ever tasted, made by Philippe Melka no less, and ACME is proud to share them with you today!

In stark contrast to the Bentrock, Sun Chase is all ruby red fruit and plush, velvety texture. It offers a ripe profile with loads of black cherries, baking spices, apple wood, and crushed flower. This wine is ripe, opulent, and flamboyant, yet, like everything from Boswell, it stays balanced, pure, and beautifully seamless through the finish. The Sun Chase Vineyard first came on board in 2015, when Philippe Melka joined the Boswell team. And, fun fact, Château Boswell is the first brand for which Melka ever made Pinot Nor. His natural talents speak volumes with every glass of this wine enjoyed!
