In 1966, AFL founder and Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt jokingly referred to the proposed game as the Super Bowl after watching a group of kids play with a toy called a "Super Ball." The name was consistent with college "bowl" games and became the permanent football championship moniker. After years of being in the sports industry, new vintner Norma Hunt started Perfect Season with her husband Lamar when they purchased land in 2000 in Knights Valley, right down the hill from Joe Montana's property and not far from Peter Michael. Norma brought on the incredible duo Jim Barbour and Philippe Melka to plant a vineyard and eventually create a wine that we all fell in love with here at ACME. Philippe Melka has been crucial in the successes of most of Napa Valley’s top brands, including Bryant Family, Dominus, Gandona, Hundred Acre, Vineyard 29, Dalla Valle, Lail, Dana Estates, Tusk, and much, much more. Philippe's passion and dedication to the wine industry have kept him in the Cabernet spotlight for over a decade, and we don’t think anyone was surprised to see him named one of the top 9 wine consultants in the world by Robert Parker. Philippe and his winemaking team are joined by renowned viticulturist Jim Barbour at the Perfect Season estate in Knights Valley.
