MAXEM Wines ~ I said it years ago when the brand was being launched and I remain committed to this observation today…..this brand WILL BE as impactful and influential to our industry as Helen Turley’s Marcassin was when she launched her brand back in 1991 before it took off into stratosphere status amongst so many collectors and critics around the world. You will thank us in 10 years when your cellar is filled with MAXEM wine, growing in value each year. Sam has been making noteworthy and collectible Cabernets for his high-end clients including Memento Mori, Arkenstone, Vangone Estate and formerly of Nine Suns, all of which are ultra-premium brands made with meticulous care from pristinely farmed vineyards. Sam is certainly one to watch in the coming decades, especially for the magic he is producing for MAXEM! “For nearly two decades we’ve helped people fulfill their dreams. Now it’s our turn.” ~Sam and Nancy Kaplan Conceptualized and produced alongside his wife, Nancy, a chef who has spent her career crafting Michelin-star cuisine in some of the best restaurants in New York City and later on in Napa Valley, these two have combined their talents and dreams to create what we at ACME enthusiastically feel is an exceptional reality! The name MAXEM is the combination of their children’s names, Max and Emma, but in Latin it also means “best of the best.” All of their wines are equally as compelling with fruit sourced from famed vineyard sources showcasing varietal pureness! Sam and Nancy have once again created an immaculate expression of Pinot Noir in this 2019 vintage made from an original Calera clone brought over from Burgundy and planted on top of the ‘Sebastopol Clays’ found in the UV Vineyard. These soils play a significant role on the style of the wine because of their ability to preserve acidity in the fruit. Reminiscent of a beautiful Grand Cru Red Burgundy from Morey-St.-Denis, this wine displays vibrant aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry, mulberry, red plum, fresh porcini mushrooms and forest floor. Sam’s expression of the varietal is dark, full-bodied, rich, concentrated and flirtatious, aged for 15 months in 60% new French oak, but displays very little oak influence. The pureness of the fruit and velvety texture stands out and we can’t help but sing its praises and honor its quality! Only 150 cases produced and 14.8% abv.
