Trial and error plays a big part in finding a new favorite anything, so a guide can be a godsend. Fortunately for us, winemakers stop in when their new projects are ready for tasting; all we have to do is hope to fall in love.

Enter the inaugural Haynes Vineyard Chardonnay. Originally owned by Nathan Coombs, the founder of the city of Napa, this Coombsville property was first planted in 1967. It is host to a microclimate distinguished by cooler temperatures, fog, and marine winds. It is a treasured site influenced by prehistoric volcanic soils that provide wines with vibrant minerality, fresh acidity, and generous structure. "Winemaking here is intuition. We listen to the land and only use oak to frame the wine like wood frames a painting." Winemaker Nico Cueva shares, "Our job is wine stewards. We’re not really winemakers anymore, we’re taking care of what this land is giving us.”

We have already made space on ACME's Wall of Wine for when it is delivered! Beautifully expressive, this fresh, mineral-tense Chardonnay is complemented by a delicate creaminess - a unique combination of power and elegance. The duo of Dijon clones 76 and Robert Yount were planted 31 years ago on a mixture of volcanic ash, alluvial, and Diatomaceous Earth soils, indicative of Coombsville, southeastern Napa's, singular characteristics.
