We debuted Tony Biagi's newest project, Patria, a few years ago with immeasurable excitement. Not only is Tony one of our favorite people in the valley, one whose smile lights up a room and whose energy radiates joy and authenticity, but he also happens to be one crazy good winemaker. For the better part of the last 20 years, Tony Biagi has been crafting wines in Napa Valley for Paraduxx, Neal Family Vineyards, PlumpJack, and Cade Wineries. Currently, he's making the wines for Hourglass, Sinegal Estate, and Amici Cellars. Following a dream he set decades ago, Tony founded Patria (meaning one's native country or homeland), paying homage to Tony's background as a California native. A fifth generation Californian, whose first memories of wine go back to his father making small amounts of wine in his garage, Tony enrolled at U.C. Davis as a marine biology major, however he ended up graduating with a degree in oenology. Tony bolstered his winemaking experience at Duckhorn Vineyards under the tutelage of Tom Rinaldi and served as the head winemaker for the Paraduxx label before assuming winemaking duties for Neal Family Vineyard and eventually landing at PlumpJack Group, spearheading the wine program at CADE on Howell Mountain. 2017 Price Vineyard Cabernet is just the third vintage from a 2.5-acre single-vineyard next to the iconic Spottswoode Estate. One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon from 28-year-old vines, aged 19 months in 100% new French oak. Cassis and hints of cinnamon follow explosive aromas of blackberry, soy, and herbs de Provence. Intense flavors of black currant and lavender with black cherry and preserved plum. It is full-bodied with crushed tannins, a well-integrated oak profile, and a long, savory finish. While still tight upon cork-pull, a healthy decant opens up the core to give the wonderful, sweet, fruit-filled, and complex finish that western Saint Helena Cabernet is known for. A most age-worthy bottling from one of ACME’s best friends, Tony Biagi.
