Arcudi Rocky Ridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2021

Our never-ending hunt for Napa Valley Cabernet that delivers beyond its price point has brought us back to Howell Mountain. These hills never disappoint! Of all the vineyards that sprawl throughout this gnarled and pitched AVA, David Abreu's Las Posadas is among the most sought-after. Having tasted many wines from this iconic site, we can confidently say that this vineyard delivers power, structure, depth, and balance unlike any other. And deservedly, the wines from Las Posadas boast hefty price tags. Luckily, there is value to be found just beyond the fence line, and Tony Arcudi does not keep secrets!

The Rocky Ridge Vineyard is adjacent to Las Posadas and benefits from the same Red Aiken soils. It is above the fog line, which means that the fruit enjoys full days of sunshine without the risk of losing acidity. At 2000 feet in elevation, it is among the highest vineyards in all of Napa Valley, and Jim Barbour tends these vines. You have likely tasted his work if you enjoy Checkerboard, Grace Family, Pride, Blankiet, Revana, and many more. 

Tony has struck some serious gold with this vineyard, and we will likely be preaching about this wine all year. It is THAT GOOD! 100% Cabernet Sauvignon raised for 20 months in 66% new French Oak. The palate is dark and smooth with juicy blue fruit, mocha, and tobacco. The tannins and acid dance perfectly together, bright and structured without taking away from immediate enjoyment. It may be too early to say, but if we were to bet on a crowd favorite for 2024, this definitely makes our list.
