ACME was born out of a passion to discover the next big, or exquisitely made, wine, lift it up high by introducing it to our loyal followers, and watch as it becomes what it does once it finally reaches its own audience. It has been 23 years of a constant flow of exciting revelations, A-HA moments, and a niche that brings us pure bliss.

One of our very first discoveries came from friends who were clients of ACME in our first year of business: 2003. I remember listening with intrigue as they shared the impassioned excitement surrounding their entrée into the Napa Valley wine scene. The estate of a beloved grandparent was either going to stay in the family or be sold, and they had decided they were dedicated to being stewards of the historic and quintessential property, and an integral part of the brand they launched - the 2003 vintage.

Time passed and the wine was emerging from its slumber and nearing its release. But first, we would be invited to a “peer" blind tasting at the estate with a handful of industry professionals, where we critiqued each wine and gave personal insight into how their brand showed in a side-by-side comparison of venerated Napa Cabs. The wines were unveiled and from that moment on, this star was born.

You likely know the story of the very lovely Bret Lopez and Mimi DeBlasio, proprietors of Scarecrow, and how their brand came to be called Scarecrow - an homage to Bret's Grandfather JJ Cohn: executive of MGM Studios who oversaw the production of The Wizard of Oz, and who planted the vines. The moment they entered the wine scene, accolades began flowing in, score-hunters were getting their dopamine hits, and the frenzied interest started a landslide of inquiries for access. Collectors are aware that it is nearly impossible to gain access due to its incredible pedigree and the popularity brought on by its cult-like existence in the world of fine wine. The talents of winemaker, Celia Welch, have been celebrated since its inception. She possesses a rare style in which she expertly balances power and refinement resulting in an ethereal wine that enthusiasts seek and go to great lengths to acquire.

~Aromas of mixed dark red berries (raspberries, cranberries), some notes of plum and fresh blueberries are represented in this 2022 Scarecrow vintage. Dark cassis notes and mocha aromas linger. A sweet, velvety entry with a burst of freshness in the mid-palate is coupled with luscious meringue-like softness in the overall mouthfeel. Bright acidity boosts the berry flavors, while the French oak adds a touch of baking spice and savory tobacco. The finish has flavors of blueberry jam, cedar, and anise, slowly fading to a soft, juicy finish. Tannins are nearly imperceptible while still holding a firm structure, giving the wine a polished, approachable, yet ageable quality." ~Winemaker Tasting Notes
