Calistoga Press is more than a wine label—it’s a dream fulfilled, rooted in small-town values and nurtured by a passion for land, community, and craft. The story begins with Bruce and Terry, who grew up in Stockton, California when it was still a quiet agricultural town filled with wide-open spaces and close-knit neighbors. Though life eventually pulled them away—through college, careers, and raising a daughter—the Northern California landscape, especially the Napa Valley, continued to call to them.
What began as wistful musings on weekend trips—“Someday we’ll find a place here”—turned into a real pursuit in later years. Drawn to the peace and authenticity of the valley, Bruce and Terry searched for a parcel that embodied that rural charm. They found it in Calistoga: a quiet property with Cabernet Sauvignon vines and, unexpectedly, 140 olive trees. That discovery became an opportunity, not an obstacle. “Looks like we’re adding olive oil to the product line,” Bruce laughed—and just like that, Calistoga Press became both a wine and olive oil venture.
At first, the couple took their time—restoring the land, improving the soil, and embracing sustainable farming practices. But eventually, their “someday” vision evolved into a clear mission: to make wine they could be proud of. That mission gained momentum when they connected with Ashley Hepworth, a revered Napa Valley winemaker known for her depth of experience, intuitive palate, and generous mentorship. A former longtime winemaker at Joseph Phelps Vineyards, Ashley brought not only technical expertise but a collaborative spirit that perfectly aligned with Bruce and Terry’s goals.
Under Ashley’s guidance, Calistoga Press produced its first release: the 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a bold yet elegant expression of Napa Valley fruit. In the glass, it opens with an inviting bouquet of black cherry, cassis, and violets, layered with hints of cedar, graphite, and toasted oak. On the palate, it’s structured and full-bodied, delivering concentrated flavors of blackberry compote, dark chocolate, and espresso, balanced by fine-grained tannins and a vibrant acidity that lends freshness and age-worthiness. A long, silky finish reveals notes of vanilla bean and crushed herbs, making it a wine of both power and poise.
More than just a bottle, this Cabernet Sauvignon is the embodiment of Bruce and Terry’s values: small-scale craftsmanship (only 67 cases were made!), meaningful relationships, and a deep respect for the land. At Calistoga Press, the emphasis isn’t on size or status—it’s on connection. Connection to a place, to a process, and to the people who believe that excellence doesn’t require fanfare—just heart, humility, and a commitment to doing things right.
