Picture the playful swirl of colors inside a kaleidoscope — bright, ever-changing, full of surprise. That's the spirit behind Kaleidoscope: the liquid-effervescent version of that magic. Crafted as part of the Sanguis Collection, this sparkling wine is the everyday go-to for joy, energy, and discovery.
Winemaker Matthias Pippig has built his reputation over the past two decades by crafting exceptional Rhône- and Bordeaux-style wines under the "Sanguis" label. Applying the same visionary lens that brought Sanguis great success, Matthias and the team have launched a series of sparkling wines from the Columbia Gorge, taking the méthode champenoise sparkling category and infusing it with bold, playful energy suited to everyday celebrations.
The Columbia Gorge AVA is one of the most geologically and climatically diverse wine regions in the world—a dramatic, 40-mile stretch straddling the Oregon–Washington border where the cool, rainy forests of the west give way to the dry, sun-baked hills of the east. Within that short distance, rainfall drops by roughly an inch per mile, and elevations range from near sea level to over 2,000 feet. This means grape varieties that thrive in both cool and warm climates can coexist, producing wines with remarkable range and energy. The region's soils are equally complex, formed from layers of volcanic rock, loess, and the ancient deposits of the Ice-Age Missoula Floods, which together contribute striking minerality and depth. Add to that the Gorge's famous wind funnel—where cool Pacific breezes meet warm continental air—and you get grapes that ripen slowly, preserving vibrant acidity and freshness. It's a natural playground for expressive, high-acid wines like Kaleidoscope Extra Brut, where every bubble carries the imprint of this wild, living landscape.
That natural tension between ripeness and brightness defines Kaleidoscope. The wine opens with delicate aromatics of Meyer lemon, green apple, and white blossoms, underpinned by a subtle mineral edge that speaks to the Gorge's ancient soils. On the palate, a fine, persistent mousse delivers flavors of pear skin, brioche, and chalky citrus, balanced by a clean, bracing finish that lingers. Both playful and precise, this sparkling wine captures the Columbia Gorge's dynamic spirit—an effervescent celebration of nature's contrasts, bottled for pure delight.
