Alsace has long been defined by families whose names carry generations of vineyard stewardship, and Boxler is among the most revered. Domaine Justin Boxler is the latest chapter in that story. While Jean Boxler has kept the family legacy alive under his grandfather Albert's label, cousins Charlotte and Florent are now crafting their own wines from their allotment of family holdings, bottling under their grandfather's name—Justin Boxler. The result is a fresh perspective on a classic region, offering wines that are at once rooted in tradition and thrillingly modern.
Their holdings include choice parcels in Grand Crus Brand, Wineck-Schlossberg, and Sommerberg, as well as the lieu-dit Pfoeller and other vineyards in Niedermorschwihr. The style is drier and more restrained, reminiscent of old-school Alsace from the 1970s, yet with a vibrancy and concentration that speak to careful, hands-on vineyard work.
A move to organic farming ten years ago is now coming full circle, with organic certification earned during the 2022 harvest, reinforcing the family's commitment to authenticity and terroir. Despite the high caliber of these wines, the label remains relatively unknown outside France, making this a rare opportunity to discover what many consider some of Alsace's younger generation's best work.
The 2023 Riesling is a vivid expression of Alsace's unique terroir. On the nose, it opens with zesty citrus, green apple, and delicate white flowers, layered with hints of wet stone and minerals. The palate is taut and finely structured, carrying the tension of the vineyard's limestone-rich soils, yet it also delivers succulent layers of ripe orchard fruit and subtle spice. This is a Riesling that not only captures the spirit of the Boxler legacy but stakes a claim for the next generation—dynamic, serious, and utterly compelling.
