If you've ever loved Vietti — the precision, the soul, the unmistakable Langhe signature — then you'll want to meet the next chapter in that story. After more than 35 vintages at the helm of Vietti, Luca Currado Vietti and Elena Penna stepped away in 2023 to begin something entirely their own: Cascina Penna-Currado. Smaller. Artisanal. A family venture rooted in generations-deep roots in the Langhe.

Their home is a cascina dating back to 1554, perched on the outskirts of Serralunga d'Alba with 360° views of rolling vineyards. Here, they farm thoughtfully, choosing cooler slopes and parcels that will carry their wines gracefully into the future. Their children, Michele and Giulia, are woven into the daily rhythm, lending a sense of playfulness and hope. Even the labels, original works by famed Giuseppe Stampone, capture that feeling: children staring across the horizon, eyes bright, looking forward. A new beginning, literally illustrated.

And at the center of it all is experience. Luca has planted, farmed, or managed nearly every parcel himself. He knows which soils give energy without weight, which exposures preserve freshness as the climate shifts, and which clusters will translate into structure without harshness. This care shines in their Dolcetto, a wine they see as both invitation and introduction — a gateway into the Langhe, especially for those discovering Piedmont for the first time.

The 2024 Dolcetto d’Alba is bright and fragrant. Whole-cluster vinified, raised in stainless steel, it sings with violet and crushed blackberry, a flicker of almond, and a subtle savory snap. Energetic, lifted, joyful — the kind of Dolcetto that makes you want to share it with friends and then pour another glass for yourself. For longtime Vietti admirers, this is a rare chance to follow Luca and Elena into their new chapter. Small production. Immense ambition. A fresh start from a Piedmont legend.
