If you ask us, there are two kinds of people in this world. And here at ACME? We're Chardonnay people. Not the butter-bombs of yesteryear. Not the overworked, over-oaked caricatures that dulled Chardonnay's shine for years. We're talking about the kind of wines that hum with tension. That smells like ocean air and citrus blossom. That makes you stop mid-sip and say, "Ohhh… this is good."

Which brings us to Walden Wine’s Mil Vistas Vineyard Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast 2024.

You may remember the Walden brothers—Chris and Jonathan—from the Pinot we shared a few months ago. That was your first hint that something serious was happening under this family label. Consider this your second nudge.

Mil Vistas sits just ten miles from the Pacific, where redwoods tower and the coastal wind keeps everything honest. Chris farms the site with the same regenerative, boots-in-the-dirt philosophy that’s made him one of the quiet forces behind some of Napa and Sonoma’s most respected vineyards. This is thoughtful farming—organic-minded, people-centered, detail-obsessed.

And then Jonathan takes the baton.

With a résumé that includes time alongside Philippe Melka, Maayan Koschitzky, and Thomas Rivers Brown, he could easily flex in the cellar. Instead, he doesn't. Native fermentations. Judicious oak. Precision without polish. He lets the vineyard his brother so carefully farms speak

Aged on its lees, the texture is where you first fall in love. There's exceptional breadth  here—a satin-like sweep across the palate that feels generous without ever becoming heavy. It's that beautiful, lees-built midpalate that gives the wine dimension and finesse. Production was tiny: just three barrels, one of which was new. That restrained touch of new oak weaves seamlessly into the wine, adding toasted hazelnut and sweet spice while allowing the fruit to remain crystalline and precise. In the glass, you'll find lemon curd, pear blossom, and coastal citrus oil layered over crushed-shell minerality. A subtle almond cream richness rides alongside vivid acidity that keeps everything lifted and bright.
